چکیده

The three variables of color vision are hue, saturat ion, and brightness. The characterist ic color differences along the spectrum which the color-normal sees are essentially concerned with hue. In measurements of wavelength discrimination the precise value of the just perceptible difference in wavelength at constant brightness is no doubt influenced by saturat ion differences, bu t the major factor is hue. Wha t determines wavelength discrimination in the colorblind? Since the best X discrimination of protanopes and deuteranopes occurs near 500 m#, which is a region matched with white, saturat ion may be a more impor tan t factor for them than for the color-normal. A simple bu t striking experiment demonstra ted to us tha t saturat ion is indeed the determining factor, x One side of the field in the I tehn-

The Color Vision of Dichromats

1. Protanopes and deuteranopes show one maximum of wavelength discrimination which occurs near their neutral point in the region of 500 mmicro (blue-green for color-normal). The value of the just discriminable wavelength interval Deltalambda is about 1 mmicro at this point and is much like the normal. To either side of this, Deltalambda rises. It increases rapidly on the short-wave side, and sl...

The Visual Functions of the Complete Colorblind

1. The visual functions of a completely colorblind individual are compared with those of the normal. The sensibility distribution in the spectrum has a maximum at 520 mmicro at all brightnesses and thus corresponds to rod vision alone. This is confirmed by studies of dark adaptation which show final thresholds like those usually found for rod vision. Dark adaptation, measured both centrally and...

Photochemistry of Visual Purple. Iii. T~e Relation between Tize Intensity of Light and the Rate of Bleaching of Visual Purple. by Selig Hecht.*

1. In the reception of light by the eye a common variable is the intensity of the illumination. Indeed, in order to analyse phenomena like dark adaptation and intensity discrimination it has been necessary to assume (Hecht, 1921-22, c; 1923-24, d) certain relations between the intensity of light and its action on the photosensitive material in the eye. The idea that visual purple is the sensiti...

Pigment tests evaluated by a model of chromatic discrimination.

Clinical color-vision tests are evaluated within the framework of a model of chromatic discrimination in terms of cone excitation. The motivation for this study was to derive a method for evaluation of test design, test sensitivity, and observer performance. The discrimination model is based on the assumption that chromatic discrimination is mediated in two independent channels, one for short-w...
